So many industries, companies, and individuals are struggling with the sudden changes in business as a result of COVID-19. I’m seeing it directly with people I know. We all know someone, or more likely, multiple people, deeply affected by the current ways we are forced to live.
While there are many people forecasting when the economy will come back to life, they all can’t be right. Social Media has created immediate economists from people that never took an economics class in college, much less in high school.
I can’t speak to the economics that we are about to go through, or how long it will take to come back, but I do know a few things… and they are:
- Referrals have always been cited as the #1 source of new business by anyone! Just poll the room you’re in now. Everyone says that the largest amount of new business comes from referrals
- Referrals will always be the leader in the source of new referrals
- Referrals come from who you know
- No one will refer Negative Nelly
Being a realist, doesn’t mean being negative. You can be positive, and a realist at the same time. It’s all how you communicate with others.
Please understand that with what is going on right now, stress is very high for just about everyone. Uncertainty creates stress. When money starts flowing again, the stress will subside. Until then we need to find outlets for our stress (perhaps exercise or even just hitting golf balls into the woods). Once we release our stress, we can create a positive impact on others. That will result in people wanting to refer to us more.
I struggle with this myself. I have few outlets to release stress because I don’t exercise. So I work very hard to be positive. I’m far from perfect, but I try very hard!
Let your positivity shine through to your contacts. When the economy starts moving again, you’ll be the recipient of that positivity and it will show through the referrals you receive from others.
