“Change the World” they said…it’ll be easy!

Well, it’s not as easy as we think. But it’s also not that hard. Consider for a minute the Butterfly Effect. What is the Butterfly Effect you might ask?

Butterfly Effect

“The term, coined by Edward Lorenz, is derived from the metaphorical example of the details of a tornado (the exact time of formation, the exact path taken) being influenced by minor perturbations such as the flapping of the wings of a distant butterfly several weeks earlier.” as indicated in Wikipedia.  The site goes on to clarify further that the concept is that “A very small change in initial conditions had created a significantly different outcome”

While Edward Lorenz came about this in a scientific approach, which is very respectable.  This can play a huge part in your Personal CarePackage as you build deeper more meaningful connections.

Take for example a simple relationship of two business professionals who live on opposite sides of the country.

Tasha Wahl is the founder of The Butterfly Effect, based in San Diego, but having an effect worldwide.

Tasha is passionate about helping people have an impact, through art. Her program allows individuals and groups around the world to use her predesigned stencil to paint a mural of a butterfly on a wall as an art installation and in return, any social media tweets that include the specified hashtags result in donations to those specific charities.

So how does Tasha, flapping her butterfly wings in San Diego affect others across the globe?

It’s nice to have contacts as I’ve mentioned before! In this case, we are friends. We’ve stayed connected through different mediums. I’ve continued to follow the projects and look for the opportunity to create our own local butterfly mural. Creating a mural takes time. It can come together overnight, but it often doesn’t. For me it was about aligning my schedule, finding the right partners, and ensuring that the city would be on board. When you involve government, things take more time.  I had been looking for the right fit for this mural for about 2 years. Eventually, all the stars aligned and we were able to create a fantastic Butterfly Effect mural at Gardner High School in Gardner, Massachusetts.

Remember that your contacts matter.  They watch what you are doing over time. What you are posting. They will engage when the time is right for them, and on what level feels right for them.

Word of Mouth referrals doesn’t always involve sales. Sometimes it works out in a situation like this where you build your relationships over time, where others see you care, and that leads to deeper for meaningful connections with others. The key here to understand the concept that one small act of caring today can lead to increased referrals and relationships.
